  • Price: Reasonable price on most things

The last few times I’ve visited I haven’t been able to see into the glass cabinets because the stock was being sorted in front of them. It is a very small space but stock should really be sorted away from the retail space if possible.

SPCA Glen Innes

SPCA Opshop GI

Address: 217 Taniwha Street, Glen Innes

  • Range of Stock: Ranging from good quality labels to a clothing table for filling a bag of clothes at a set price.
  • Customer Service: The staff are really pleasant and friendly to customers they have a great team of staff and volunteers. They represent the SPCA brand extremely well.
  • Display: The effort made to display items in this store is really good, the team are always tidying and moving things around. They obviously take great pride in making the shop look presentable. Displays are often colour blocked and even though clothes aren’t individually priced there is clear signage for pricing around the store. It’s a pleasure to walk around this store.
  • Stock Quality: The stock is well sorted and clean.
  • Price: Pricing for the most part is reasonable

The team at the SPCA Glen Innes spend a lot of time making sure their shop is displayed well, they’re always busy doing something. Stock is clean and tidy and pricing is very reasonable. The counter staff are always bubbly and friendly and are a pleasure to deal with, you should enjoy spending time here.
Sometimes this store has individual tags on some label clothing and the pricing often seems a little high on these items even for designer labels. I tend to ignore this stock. Plenty of bargains to find here regardless.

New Beginnings Glen Innes

Address: 14 Mayfair Place, Glen Innes, Auckland

  • Range of stock: Mostly clothing, linen and bric a brac, with the odd piece of furniture and some electrical
  • Customer Service:  Staff are friendly locals who seem to genuinely care about the community
  • Display: Shop fittings are old, shop could do with lick of paint and a tidy up. Stock isn’t displayed well but staff do the best with what they have
  • Stock Quality: Huge range of clothes from poor quality to brand new in a bag. I think they could improve their sorting standards although if you’re happy to forage there are some real gems to be found.
  • Price: During the week – cheap to average pricing & on Saturdays – average to top dollar pricing

New Beginnings is an OpShop run by the Auckland City Mission. It’s no frills but that being said you can find some great bargains in there from time to time with generous donations of new stock from some major companies.
The pricing fluctuates as clothing items aren’t tagged with prices, instead the customer must go to the front counter for pricing. My thoughts from a customer service perspective is that its worth taking the time to price clothing, then the customer has the option of deciding whether the price fits within their budget or not and doesn’t face possible embarrassment at the counter.
This is a “push stock into a shop and sell it quick” type opshop rather than a retail shopping experience. The sales staff are friendly and the music is good but you’ll need to sort through some very average clothing at times in order to find a treasure.
